Video: EFCC Discovers Over N400m Stashed In Lagos Shopping Plaza

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has just unveiled large sum of money suspected to belong to money launderers hidden in a shop at LEGICO Shopping Plaza, Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island, Lagos state.

According to a report by the commission, the money stashed in several ‘Ghana Must Go’ bags in N500 and N1000 denominations, is worth a total of N448,850,000 (Four hundred and forty-eight million, eight hundred and fifty thousand naira) and was hidden in the shops, awaiting conversion into foreign currency.

Working on information provided by a concerned whistleblower, the EFCC operatives stormed the area to sought the identity of the owners of the two shops, LS 64 and LS 67 which were under locks and keys.

A signage written on the store's front showed 'Bureau de Change.' However, several inquiries about the owner(s) of shop 64 indicated he had not been seen for a long time, as the plaza operators claimed the store had not been opened for business for almost two years. Several calls were put to the owner of shop 67 but there was no response.

The attention of the plaza’s chairman and some traders were drawn in order to force the shops open.No money was found in shop 67, but on the floor of shop 64, were heaps of “Ghana Must Go” bags loaded with cash.

Traders interviewed at the premises said they were not aware such amount was hidden in there since the place hardly opens for business.
The Commission has commenced an investigation to unravel the owner and source of the money.
